The six-day fashion extravaganza took place from July 15-20, 2014 at the Taj Palace hotel, New Delhi, with Manish Malhotra’s “Portraits” collection being presented on the 19th.
Manish Malhotra’s collection derived its inspiration from the neo-bride, bringing to life different expressions of ‘Gold’, from antique vintage gold to old-world yellow gold and more.As the name suggests, “Portraits” was an endeavour to translate the magic of a bride’s most special moments and weave them into a tactile expression. The collection was reminiscent of past eras and hallowed traditions but is conveyed in the language of today.
The stunning bridal collection with exquisitely crafted lehengas features elaborate vintage motifs, delicate Kashmiri embroidery and old-world mirror-work. While the fabrics and silhouettes appeal to contemporary sartorial sensibilities, the detailed embroidery is reminiscent of Indian craftsmanship of yore. The collection was crafted in velvet and silks with the color palette ranging from soft shades of beige and gold, salmon pink to hues of rust orange and red.
Besides Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapoor, Huma Qureshi and Urmila Matondkar also did the catwalk. Aditya looked handsome in a gold-embroidered sherwani, cream-coloured palazzo pants and gold juttis while Alia looked elegant in a red and gold lehenga with a scoop neck full-sleeved blouse and net dupatta.
